Legendary singers and performers, 2Baba and Awilo Longomba were honoured with the 2019 AFRIMA ‘Legends of the Year’ award at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA). The event held on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 at the Eko Convention Center, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The special recognition award was first presented to Congolese legendary musician, Awilo Longomba who has been releasing music since 1995. He also performed some of his biggest hits, that had the crowd turning up. Awilo treated the crowd to a nice mix of his songs like, ‘Coupe Bibamba (comment tu t’appelle)’, ‘Mondongo’ and ‘Gate Le Koin (Makossa)’. One thing I learned was, even after 24 years of performing, Awilo can still dance ‘Makossa’ like he was born yesterday.

2Baba also received the AFRIMA ‘Legend of the Year’ award. This award comes at a timely period for 2Baba as he’s been celebrating 20 years in the music industry. During his performance, he started a mini-party, with renditions of some of his biggest jams. The legend performed fan favourites like ‘African Queen’, ‘Amaka’, and ‘Oyi’. 2Baba also won the AFRIMA ‘Best Artist in African Contemporary’ award, for his song, ‘Oyi’ that same night.

Congratulations to 2 Baba and Awilo Logomba for a well-deserved award. If their performance at the AFRIMA was anything to go by, these two legends won’t be slowing down anytime soon. We can’t wait to see what they do next.
