The many fans of the late Hip-hop rapper Tupac Amaru Shakur here in Nigeria will be extra delighted to find out that the American rapper will be ‘resurrected’ as the Official ‘Tupac Shakur Family and Friends Tour 2011 comes to Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the Makaveli Music Group, LLC, the tour is meant to promote the release of a double CD family tribute which was put together by the Tupac Shakur family. The tour aims to celebrating the life of Tupac Amaru Shakur who would have been 40 years old on the Thursday, June 16, 2011.
Sources tell us that it is Nigeria based talent/events management company One Management that will bring the tour to the shores of Nigeria and that they are already in talks with the CEO of Makaveli Music Group and Tupac’s cousin, Kendrick Lesane.
The Tour which will be a 2 day event consisting of a Hip-hop Summit and the Tupac Tribute Concert will feature a talk shop which will have close members of the Tupac’s family share experiences they had with the late rapper, to the hip-hop culture, lessons learnt and the effect of one of hip hop’s greatest rap icons on the average Youth and on the Nigerian side. Side attractions will be underground talents showcasing their skills, rap battle sessions, and many more.
‘The Tupac family is excited about promoting in Nigeria, Tupac’s legacy of the youth, creating something positive out of dire circumstances. It will be our first time in Africa and we are looking forward to it’, Kendrick Lesane says.
‘One of the major objectives for the summit is to send out a strong message to the Nigerian Youth about channelling their energy and talent positively through the medium of music as hip hop is a platform that encourages creativity and entrepreneurship. Tupac was not just a rapper; he was a poet, writer, actor, activist and legend who used his talent to create a whole movement’, Emem Ema of One management says.
Tupac or better known by his stage name 2Pac was very influential as well as controversial in his days as a rapper. On September 7, 1996, ’Pac was shot four times in the Las Vegas metropolitan area of Nevada. He was taken to the University Medical Center, where he died 6 days later of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.
