8 Nigerian Stars To Have Ever Been Nominated For The ‘Best African Act’ At The MTV European Music Award

It’s no secret that four Nigerians have already won the Best African Act award five times, but there have also been others who have had the honour of being nominated but never won. Burna Boy and Teni Entertainer are nominated this year and one of them may join the four winners later today.

Getting nominated for the MTV EMAs Best African Act is almost as big as winning because it means that you are being recognised in the world and not just in your home country. Today we celebrate all the artistes who ever got nominated for this award, whether or not they won.

Wizkid: He has been nominated for the award 5 times, in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. He was announced as the winner of the award in 2016 at the award show in the Netherlands but was later stripped of the title after the show. After the award, the votes that were accessible to the public showed that Alikiba had led. MTV said there was an error, apologised for any confusion, and recognised both their achievements on a global platform. The award was then given to Alikiba from Tanzania.

Davido: He has been nominated four times for the award, in 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018 . In 2017, he won the ‘Best African Act’ award.

D’Banj: D’Banj has only been nominated for the award twice, in 2007 and 2012 and he won those 2 times. A true king!

Tiwa Savage: She has been nominated two times for the award, in 2014 and 2018. She finally won the award in 2018.

5. 

P-Square: They got nominated for ‘Best African Act’ twice in 2006 and 2013. They never won, still we stan!

6. 

2Baba: He was only ever nominated once in 2005 and he won it that year.

7. 

Yemi Alade: She was nominated for the MTV EMA ‘Best African Act’ in 2015 alongside Davido and Wizkid but neither of them won the award that year.

8. 

Olamide: In 2016, Olamide got a nomination for the MTV EMA Best African Act but he didn’t win the award.
