This week would probably go down as one of President Buhari‘s gaffed-filled days in office. Talk about scoring own goals…
Few days after the back-and-forth regarding a dubious award given by Martin Luther King Jnr’s family, another egg-in-face incident just occurred, this timing involving British supermodel Naomi Campbell.
While commissioning the Eko Atlantic City on his state visit to Lagos, President Buhari ‘met’ with the pop icon; even tweeting a photo excitedly from his official account.
President @MBuhari today in Lagos toured Eko Atlantic City. He’s pictured here with Governor @AkinwunmiAmbode, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and @NaomiCampbell. #PMBinLagos pic.twitter.com/OQK2mKK1qU

The gist, however, took a downturn when Campbell tweeted from her own account that she was invited by the presidency. After a media aide of the president denied that claim, leading to a quick deletion of the incriminating tweet.
For the sake of clarity, President @MBuhari didn’t invite Ms. Naomi Campbell to any event during his 2-day visit to Lagos State. They only met at the Eko Atlantic City while Mr. President was touring the project, and she requested to take photos with him.

Ms Campbell then revised her tweet, saying that she was in the city to attend the Arise Fashion Week- even using all capital letters!
Was a pleasure to meet His Excellency The President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari to the launch of Eko Atlantic. HERE FOR ARISE FASHION WEEK ???????????????????????????? pic.twitter.com/Wme3BRGvp3

Of course, Nigerians have reacted to the faux-pas- only as Nigerians are able to.
First y’all said Naomi Campbell was here for skepta’s show, now fashion week, y’all better stick to a script

So Naomi Campbell was just strolling on the street looking for where to buy recharge card, and Buhari just met her? https://t.co/94ar1Z3cON

Naomi Campbell has been modeling professionally for fashion houses since she was 15 and is worth over $60m.
But Timothy from Sabo-before-bridge is calling her an “olosho” coz she shook hands with your President? pic.twitter.com/UVwSkinEPT

But the most important question is this one by Bring Back Our Girls campaigner, Aisha Yusuf who enquired how such an accidental meeting could have happened, seeing that the entire city of Lagos was locked down for his visit- only he for him to casually run into a ‘fan’.
I thought the reason for the shutdown of Lagos was for security purpose so that anyone not already approved, vetted, screened and on a list would not have accidental meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari
