First lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has called out the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its handling of the ruling party’s nationwide primaries.
The wife of the president in a series of tweets shared via her official Twitter account alleged that the APC primaries are full of irregularities.
Mrs Buhari specifically cried out that some aspirants who had purchased nomination forms at exorbitant prices to contest various positions count not find their names on the ballot.
She went on to emphasise that the party knew it was giving ‘automatic’ tickets yet allowed contestants to participate after spending their hard earned money.
Hajiya Buhari also questioned the integrity of the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole, wondering why the party which core message is ‘Change’ and led by ‘a Comrade/Activist’ could allow for such impunity under its watch.
The first lady went on dissociate from the current activities of the party, preferring to stay neutral so she can speak for the voiceless.
This is not the first time Aisha Buhari will criticize the ruling APC party.
In 2016 during a BBC interview, She claimed that her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari did not know most of the top officials he appointed.
She had said, “The President does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.
“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”
In the BBC interview, the Mrs. Buhari refused to name those who had hijacked the government, saying, “You will know them if you watch television.”
As the political season in Nigeria gets more intense in the next few months, comments like this from the wife of the President will surely have a significant impact on the general process.

It is disheartening to note that some aspirants used their hard earned money to purchase nomination forms, got screened, cleared and campaigned vigorously yet found their names omitted on Election Day, these forms were bought at exorbitant prices.

It is important for the populace to rise against impunity and for voters to demand from aspirants to be committed to the provision of basic amenities such as:
