A California-born man, Joshua Witts, has confessed to police how he lied about being attacked by a black man in the parking lot of a sports store.
He claimed the attack took place after the individual walked up to him in the parking lot and asked if he was a Neo-Nazi, before making to stab him.
Witts stated at the time that he had tried protect himself with his hand hence, getting stabbed in the hand.
But after police investigations, the stories and eye witness reports did not match, raising a red flag for the cops.
Also, the man he described was interrogated and found to be innocent, which led to police confronting Witts, who finally confessed to making up the story.
Officers expressed shock at his actions and do not believe the event was racially motivated but a minor incident which was blown out of proportion given the Facebook post.
Witts was arrested and later released, but could pay a fine of $2,650 and get sentenced to a year in jail if found guilty of false accusation.
