This year’s AMVCA is looking really good! While we’re used to seeing IK Osakioduwa’s awesomeness on our screens during AMVCA night, his co-host this year is Amina Abdi Rabar, and she’s pretty amazing as well.
Here are some things you should know about AMVCA host, Amina Abdi Rabar:
This is her first time as AMVCA host
Amina is an award-winning media personality who has worked as a radio and TV presenter. She has anchored different shows like NTV’s The Trend, Mashariki Mix, The Turn up, Moments on EbonyLife TV, among others. However, this will be her first time working as the host of the glamourous AMVCA event.
She is the first East African to host the event
Previous female hosts of the AMVCA have been Vimbai Mutinhiri and Minnie Dlamini, who are Zimbabwean and South African respectively. Amina’s selection as the host makes her the first Kenyan and East African to take on the role.
She has worked as the voice of Coke Studio Africa
Amina Abdi Rabar has worked as the official voice of Coke Studio Africa and the host of their online show.
An influencer for good
This MC uses her influence to make a positive impact on society. She works with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to raise awareness and advocate for refugees and the eradication of female genital mutilation.
Amina is totally multi-talented
Not only can she engage an audience, but she’s also a great singer, actress, and OAP! Can you beat that?
Media was never in her life plan
She had no plans to go into media but fell into it purely by chance. Growing up in a conservative family, she was expected to study law or international relations. However, she gained an opportunity to work in radio and hasn’t looked back since.
We look forward to seeing how her unique personality will light up the AMVCAs.
