The pop duo from Nigeria famed for the hit Yori Yori may not have gotten the proverbial treatment their compatriots, P Square received on their last tour to Kenya – that included feminine inner clothing thrown on stage – but they still managed to wow their few female fans who showed up for their show.
The duo, Vast and Smash were scheduled to perform in Nairobi, Kenya over the New Year (last January) at the Carnivore to a handful of revelers.
Bracket arrived at midnight on Friday, January 1 and held a press briefing at the Nakumat Junction media Store hours before their performance. The duo exuded cockiness in the manner in which they answered questions fielded to them.
Though their hit song, Yori Yori still blazes Kenya’scapital city to date, one would have expected a mammoth turnout for their concert. This was a pipe dream as a number of factors lead to the near flop of their show.
On the night, Saturday, January 2, the heavy down pour kept some fans away, at the same time, the timing for the show was not the best. Most of the fun-loving party animals were at the coast (Mombasa) for the holidays where a number of well advertised beach parties were being hosted.
With the eventual poor turnout, the loss was not just felt by the promoter did not break even but Bracket as well because they failed to make an impression on the huge fan base they have in Kenya.
Bracket’s performance on the night was average at best. Most people expected a choreographed performance with a dance routine thrown in for good measure but none of that happened.
They proceeded to perform about four tracks off their album including their hit song No Time (featuring PSquare).
Other performers who shared the stage with Bracket included Nameless, Habida and Nonini.
