Cardi B pleaded ‘not guilty’ to a 12-count charge that includes assault, harassment, and conspiracy yesterday in court.
She arrived at the courthouse dressed in a navy blue and pink pantsuit flanked by her legal team. Cardi has not been charged alone as two other members of her team were also charged with the same offenses as Cardi.
It is alleged that Cardi had ordered the attack on the two sisters in a strip club, one of which she believes to have slept with her husband, Offset.
Cardi had been indicted on all the aforementioned charges including misdemeanor reckless endangerment, assault, criminal solicitation and had refused an initial plea deal. If Cardi is found guilty though, she faces the possibility of going to jail for up to 4 years.
The sisters who are bartenders at the Angels Gentleman Club in Queens have claimed that Cardi and her entourage threw glass bottles and alcohol at them. They also said that one woman’s head was slammed into the bar.
According to the acting Queens District Attorney John Ryan, Cardi B and her accomplices coordinated the day, time, location and victims of both attacks over a social media platform. They also allegedly discussed money being exchanged for carrying out the assault. They claim that the victim suffered lacerations to her legs, bruising to her feet and the alcohol thrown in her face irritated her eyes
The initial deal Cardi rejected could have kept her out of jail but her lawyer is confident that she will be cleared of all charges. He said, “The rest of the defense team and most importantly our client know that through this system, ultimately there will be a favorable outcome in favor of Cardi”.
This plea deal comes just days after Cardi won the best album and best female artist of the year at the BET awards.
