A coalition of Northern Groups issued a 30-day notice and warning to governors of Southern states who are not on board with the RUGA settlements idea.
Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the spokesperson of the group has said that the back and forth on the acceptance of the program is already causing some agitation for the herders who are mostly Fulani. They released a statement yesterday that Channels Television carried saying that they are placing Buhari on a 30-day notice to implement the RUGA settlement idea.
While giving that speech, he said: “While we warn all state governments that stand against the implementation of the Ruga Initiative to desist and give peace a chance, we place President Buhari and the Federal Government on notice that they must completely stop this raging madness within 30-days beginning from today, Wednesday”.
He also said something that sounded chillingly close to a threat. He said “we advise the federal authorities and the southern leaders to heed the 30-day notice, failing which, we will most definitely be left with no option than to consider resorting to our decisive line of action”.
He then went on with his threat saying, “We remind the nation that so long as the Fulani will not be allowed to enjoy their citizen’s right of living and flourishing in any part of this country, including the south, NO ONE should also expect us to allow any southerner to enjoy the same in Northern Nigeria.”
They are yet to say what their decisive line of action will be if the Southern state governors refuse to comply with the RUGA settlements in 30 days. This comes after the Federal Government suspended the planned Programme.
RUGA is Rural Grazing Area settlement that was to be a solution to the herders versus farmers crisis that has been ravaging the country.
