The evolution of collective management of rights in the Nigerian music industry has recently hit some headwinds as the license of COSON, Nigeria’s first CMO has been withdrawn by the Nigerian Copyrights Commission (NCC) over issues relating to inefficiency and lack of coordination. An approval has been granted to the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) for Sound Recordings and Musical Works.

To this effect, Premier Music (a music publishing firm) has penned a letter to the NCC questioning the efficiency of collective administration in Nigeria and who the beneficiaries of this structure have been so far.
