Desmond Elliot said in an interview with Hip TV that for the Nollywood industry to grow, the Nigerian government will have to ban foreign content. He said they should make foreign content difficult to enter the country so our own content can grow. His comment about the foreign content ban has been criticised by most Nigerians.
He didn’t only ask for the ban of foreign content, he said that the content is a product that must be treated like rice importation. Nigerians have decided that his request was impractical and have taken to Twitter to air their views.
Some of the opinions are below:
Should we tell Desmond Idiot, sorry Desmond Elliot that we don't import foreign films, we stream or download them. For government to even come close to clamp down on foreign movies, they have to ban internet, Netflix, Showmax, Piratebay etc

Desmond Elliot said the Nigerian Government Should ban Abroad movies from coming into the country, so that we all can always go to the cinemas to watch Koto Aye, Aki n PawPaw Part 1-5. The abroad should be ready to ban Nigerian Music too.

With comments like, i really don't know Desmond Elliot's endgame. Is he feeling like the avenger of Nollywood? I never heard Wizkid or Davido bitching about Foreign competitiön. Those boys bent down, braced up and took Nigeria to the world. Same with Genevieve. #BBNaija

They should ban Avengers so that I'll be watching

Dear Mr. Desmond Elliot,
I hope realize that your kids will no longer be able to watch Nickelodeon, Jim Jam and Cartoon Network if foreign movies are banned? Plus, no more Zee World for your wife. Can you cope like this? pic.twitter.com/ZBINY1RepD

Yesterday I saw an interview where Desmond Elliot said govt has to ban the importation of foreign movies/entertainment so that Nollywood can grow.
He actually said "Govt should do like it did with rice".
Is it crack? Really is it?
