Did you know that Dj Obi, the Nigerian disc jockey who has just a new world record for Longest Marathon Club DJing at 229 hours and 58 minutes is the son of late broadcatser, Dr Levi Ajuonuma?
Well now you know.
Dj Obi’s dad, Levi Ajuonoma, was a multi-talented broadcaster, who ran multiple shows on radio and TV in the 90s, before taking up an appointment as spokesperson for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and was on the ill-fated Dana aircraft that crashed on June 3, 2012.

A few weeks back, Dj Obi who is not new to setting records remembered his late dad and how he surprised him during his inter-house sports competition when he set a new record at the age of 14 during the 100 meters race.
Here’s what he wrote; ‘Flash back to the track days, in secondary school i was all about sports. And i remember my dad would usually send a relative or someone from his office to attend inter-house sports (sports day) which for me was my time to shine. And on this faithful day my dad decided to surprise me by showing up’.
‘My first race was the 400 meters that day, I had this friend named Wale and we were the track stars in the school that season. For the 400 meters race we decided to sprint the whole thing cause we knew we could. He won that race and i came second BUT! We were finished. We had exhausted all strength and energy, we hadn’t even done our main events which were the 100 meters race and the 100 meters relay race too. Wale at this point is throwing up and i’m passed out at the sick bay’.

‘The sport teacher pushed back the 100 meters to allow us rest a little, but the time came and we had to do the race. Wale tapped out cause he was done for the day, i decided i would still do it. I get to the starting blocks and as soon as i go down i hear a very loud cheer ” GO OBI!!!” I look back and it’s my dad. The race starts and only God knows where the energy and speed came from but i finished the race and set a record that day. 11 seconds for 100 meters at 14 years old.’
‘The main surprise that day was that he had NTA cameras there from the beginning of the day taping the whole thing. So guess what played during Sunday Show that week after every commercial break, MY RACE. That day i pushed my limits but more importantly i loved the support i got from him showing up to see me win. I LOVE AND MISS YOU DADDY. I’m gonna keep winning cause i know you are always watching now. #Dana153 #DrLeviAjuonuma’.
