At the announcement of Nigerian Entertainment Conference 2.0 which was held at Radisson Hotel, Ikeja on Tuesday, there was a surprise guest in attendance – singer DJ Zeez.
The “O Fokasibe” hitmaker sprung out of nowhere following a time away from media glare and surprised all in attendance at the event.
Dj Zeez whose real name is Kinsley Elikpo has since changed his name to Zeez. He came into limelight in the early 2000s with moderate hit, ‘Same Ni’, before dropping the hit single “O Fokasibe” in 2009. The song gained massive airplay and had people talking because of the literal meaning of the song title, which was a play on a street slang at the time.
He quickly dropped another hit single, “Boobie e” which was controversial but also well received. In 2009, ‘Fokasibe’ won ‘Best Street Hop Award’ at the Hip Hop World Award now known as The Headies.
Zeez was signed to Edlyne Records, the same label that had the late Dagrin on its roll.
Looking dapper in his all-black traditional outfit, Zeez had this to say about the future of the entertainment industry.
“The one thing we can do to build the future of the entertainment industry is to stop the celebration of mediocrity as it tones down the value of talent and the celebration of true talent,” he said.
When asked what NECLive has contributed to the entertainment industry so far he said, “NECLive has helped with exposure, tutorials and exchange of knowledge. And he believes NECLive is creating a ripple effect,” he added.
NECLive 8 will be holding its 8th edition on the 22nd of April 2020 at the Landmark Event Centre, Oniru, from 10 am. NECLive 2.0, themed ‘Building The Future’, will be shifting from an academic conference to a more experimental event this year.
