As speculations continue to mount on a possible presidential ambition for media mogul Oprah Winfrey, US President Donald Trump during a press conference when asked if he thought he could beat Oprah if she ran for president in 2020. Emphatic was his response and he said “Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah” without even a moment’s pause.
The POTUS went on to say that contesting against Oprah would be a lot of fun but that he didn’t think the former show host would run for president. He added that he knew Oprah very well, even citing an example of the last time he had been on Oprah’s show saying “she was very nice.”
This is not the first time that President Trump has said nice things about Oprah. In 1999, he said Oprah would be a good running mate and also tweeted in 2012 that he adores her.
However, despite Trump’s confidence that Oprah was not going to run for president, her partner and best friend Gayle King had earlier in the week said “I do think she’s intrigued by the idea,” and even added that she is actively considering it. This may mean that Trump has to watch his back.
Oprah Winfrey was pulled into the political light recently after her awe-inspiring speech at the Golden Globe Awards as she received her Cecil B. DeMille Award. Social media basically went crazy on why Oprah should run for Presidency in 2020 despite the star previously stating that there will be no running of any office for her.
