If you didn’t catch Cardi B’s performance at the LivespotX Festival, then you missed one of the best performances you’ll see this year. Luckily, I was there and I can tell you all about it. Buckle up for some Cardi B goodness!
There are six things that stood out to me across the entire 30-45 minute set and I’ve documented them below. Check them out:
Entrance: For her entrance, Cardi B didn’t come on stage as soon as her set started. She sort of hung back for a few minutes rapping while her dancers went off on stage before joining them. The element of suspense drove the crowd into a frenzy and when she finally came on stage, the place basically erupted with screams.
Song choices: Cardi B picked the right blend of songs to perform. She started with her more popular songs and features like Migos’ “Motorsport” before taking back to songs off her “Bartier Bardi” mixtapes and her debut album. The latter half of her set featured new hits like “Press” before she closed with the mega hit “Bodak Yellow”.
Twerking: You already know that it cannot be a proper Cardi B performance if some twerking doesn’t go down. Both she and her dancers thrilled us to various twerk steps all through her set.
Outfit and dancers: Both Cardi B and her dancers had on Green and White outfits to represent Nigeria and the crowd screamed louder when they first appeared. If not anything, this fashion choice alone has converted a lot of Nigerians into Cardi B fans. It was a proud thing to witness.
Vocal clarity: Throughout her set, Cardi B was dropping clear, accurate bars as she performed. She didn’t miss a beat, mess up her lines or lip-sync at any point. For me, this was one of the most special things about her performance. Nigerian artistes can definitely learn a few things.
Fireworks: Cardi B ended her set with a five minute fireworks show that had the LivespotX crowd hyped and pulling out their phones to record. The fireworks came after she performed her last song of the night, “Bodak Yellow”. Now, that’s how to close a show!
I can’t help but look forward to other international acts coming to deliver performances as good as Cardi’s in Nigeria. There is a lot to hope for and I can only hope the future comes bearing fruits like Cardi B!
