As we count down to this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) holding on August 27, let’s check out five things you didn’t know about this year’s VMAs.
Despacito Was Not Nominated
Despite being the most watched YouTube video of all time, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s video was not nominated for the VMAs.
This is because the video was not submitted for nomination. However, the song will be acknowledged as a nominee in the Song of The Summer category.
Say Bye To Gender Specific Categories
MTV is eliminating gender specific categories at this year’s award show. They will be combining The Best Female Video and The Best Male Video awards into Artist Of The Year.
Goin’ goin’, back back to Cali Cali
This year’s VMAs mark the second time that it will be hosted at Inglewood, California. The last time was in 2014 when Miley Cyrus won Video Of The Year for her Terry Richardson directed clip for ‘Wrecking Ball’.
The Moon Man Is Getting A Makeover!
Apart from getting a physical makeover, the iconic MTV award, The Moon Man will also be renamed. The Moon Man will now be called The Moon Person.
This Year’s Edition Will Feature A Performing Host
The VMAs didn’t have a host last year but that will not be the case this year. Not only will pop singer, Katy Perry, be hosting the award show but she’ll also be performing and we are sure it’s going to be a memorable one.
