Today, Nigerians woke up to the news of Iyanya, former co-owner of MMMG music label, signing a new recording deal with the Don Jazzy-led Mavin Records.
The news of the new deal, or call it switch, is generating quite a serious conversation online and Nigerian entertainment journalists are not left out.

Joan Omionawele, a writer with Tribune says, ‘I find it quite shocking, because to me it looks like a movement from boss to employee.’
Olusola Ricketts who writes for ThePointng says, ‘I think his career hitting the rock and signing the deal with Don Jazzy may be his first step to saving the career.’
Idris Aina comments, ‘I think the move was needed to save his career but again, he’s still a big fish and needs only one good song to tilt his career in the right direction. He could still have achieved same aim back at MMMG. Both acts need a new material that’ll shoot them up the charts. Right now, they don’t have any. However, I feel Iyanya needs D’TUNES more than Don Jazzy.’
Naij.com’s Michael Abimboye says, ‘He wasn’t the boss. All the co-owner of MMMG story was a hoax because you don’t own a company (doing well) and quit to get employed by another. I believe it’s a nice move for both Don Jazzy and Iyanya. No hit from Don Jazzy so far, working with Iyanya may lead him to one. Remember their song together ‘Gift’ was a hit, a sign that they might have a good chemistry.’
In the words of Rasheed Abubakar, ‘Iyanya needs more than one hit song to survive, that is if he’s able to have it. But, joining Mavin is on the right track, if you ask me, because Don-Jazzy’s Mavin is the only ‘record label’ structure wise, in Nigeria, apart from Chocolate city. At the same time, it’s good for Don-Jazzy, who is only Reekado Bank-ing on Tiwa Savage.
