President Muhammadu Buhari last night sent a letter requesting for the renewal of the appointment of Godwin Emefiele as Central Bank of Nigeria Governor.
The letter was then read at the Senate plenary session today. This comes right before Godwin’s first term appointment of five years is to end on the 2nd day of June this year.
Godwin Emefiele is breaking a record since this is the first time since Nigeria’s Democracy in 1999 that a Central Bank of Nigeria governor has been nominated for a second tenure.
He was first nominated in 2014 by former President Goodluck Jonathan and then retained in office when President Buhari resumed office in 2015. If the nomination for the renewal is approved by the Senate President, Godwin Emefiele is expected to be CBN Governor till 2024.
