There is nothing more fulfilling for an artiste than getting their most loyal fans making up the larger percentage of the audience whenever they perform in a concert. That’s exactly what happened on December 29, 2018, when the duo of Ghost and Tec who form the Nigerian hip-hop group, Show Dem Camp, hosted their fans to the second edition of their annual concert, ‘Palmwine Music Festival’.
The venue, Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, was packed with almost 3000 guests who turned up to listen to a fresh blend of rap music served by the quintessential musicians with an ambience so on point with an endless supply of booze, food and of course Palmwine.
The event opened with supporting performances from some of the SDC affiliates including Teni Entertainer, Falz The Bahd Guy, IKON, Pretty Boy Do, and more with great music supplied by the very impressive female jockey, DJ Yin.
The headliners then kicked off their set with a rousing performance of their Burna Boy assisted single ‘Legend’ which set the mood for a groovy night. Even the soar voice of Tec could not stop them from passionately engaging the fans who didn’t even mind.
They would later be joined on stage by guest artistes including Moelogo, Tomi Thomas, BOJ, Ajebutter 22, Funbi, Lady Donli, Flash and Ghanian artiste Worlasi as they performed joints from both volumes of their last two projects, Palmwine Music 1 & 2. At the end of the concert, Show Dem Camp announced the release of a new body of work to kickstart the new year 2019.
Clone Wars IV eventually dropped on new year’s day and it’s a total deviation from the kind of Palmwine music they have put out in recent years. Following the same scheme of past their past 3 Clone Wars Series, this new offering themed “These Buhari Times” is an attempt to capture events of the era in which Nigeria as a country is at the moment.
“Since Clone Wars III, I’ve been impatient, Too much Palmwine can cause intoxication…,” Tec says on the opening track, ‘Centre of Excellence’ as he reflects on some of the issues that make up the daily life of a Nigerian in 2019.
On this 14 track project, it’s all about serious and conscious music, enlisting worthy collaborators such as MI Abaga who joined on the record ‘Loyalty and Honour’. Others are LadiPoe, on ‘Savage’ and more to help convey the message.
With this new project, Show Dem Camp has once again shown they can balance two extremes, good and quality rap music and good quality groovy rap music and why they are worthy to be conferred the title of ‘Leaders of The New School’.
