Ex-Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, has emerged the new chairman of Delta State Football Association.
The former Nigerian mercurial midfielder was voted the new boss of Delta State FA during an election that held in Delta State today, Friday, February 20, 2015. Okocha garnered all the votes except one, 26 votes of a total of 27 votes while his co-contestant, Evans Agbo, was only able to get a vote.
Renowned sports journalist and analyst, Colin Udoh broke the news via his verified Twitter handle, writing: ‘Ex Super Eagles captain Austin ‘JayJay’ Okocha replaces Amaju Pinnick as chairman of Delta FA. Okocha polled 26 of 27 votes cast. Okocha was previously vice chairman under Amaju Pinnick. His election represents a major groundbreaker for the Super Eagles Class of 94.’
Okocha had previously served as vice chairman before the election and now officially replaces Amaju Pinnick, who was elected President of Nigeria Football Federation, September 30, 2014. With his victory, Okocha joins the likes of Christopher Green, Abubakar Ladan and Ganiyu Majekodunmi amongst others who have emerged winners in their respective State FA elections.
Along with Okocha, fellow ex-internationals like Edema Fuludu and Victor Ikpeba have also been brought on board the Delta State FA, as vice chairman and member of the board respectively.
