I’ve never been this optimistic about my child’s future than I am now. I am a new mom and a teacher. I must admit that even as a teacher, I have been sceptical about the future of Nigerian children. This is a result of my past teaching experience. I guess I have been teaching in the wrong schools, because we never attended the NAPPS (National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools) event.
I later moved to a better school. Everyone here attends the event and so I was compelled to also attend. Thank God I did. I was wowed! The support, the love we got as teachers. I had not imagined it. MTN even sponsored the event! I thought it was a small thing o.
About 10,000 teachers gathered there and it felt great to be among my kind. We gisted, laughed, had fun, and competed as well. There was an essay competition for teachers. I didn’t win, sadly. The top three teachers were awarded with cash prizes by MTN.
One of the highlights was MTN’s brief talk about its product, MTN mPulse. Forgive my ignorance but I haven’t heard about mPulse before. I actually went to buy an MTN mPulse sim. The package is such a blessing to parents and kids alike. It has a content-based website that complements the efforts of schools by providing digital educational content. I’m surely going to preach this at the next PTA meeting. Coupled with this, it has a special data bundle, parental control, cheap national calls and many more.
On my way home, I couldn’t help but marvel at how helpful this would be to the Nigerian education sector. I sometimes get jealous that we didn’t have things like this while growing up but i’m glad i can be a part of it as a teacher.
