An Atlanta judge has ordered Nick Gordon, Bobbi Kristina‘s boyfriend, to pay the sum of $36m in damages after he was found guilty of causing her tragic death in January of 2015.
The daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston was found unresponsive in a bath tub, almost three years to the day her mother died in similar circumstances. An autopsy showed she had morphine, cocaine, alcohol and prescription drugs in her body.
The family had accused Gordon of injecting her with the drugs that caused her death. He denied the claims and the courts could not determine if he indeed deliberately killed her. However a civil court found him guilty and asked to pay damages: $1.575m for money taken from the account, including alleged stolen rings; $250,000 in punitive damages; $1.37m for assault and battery; $13.8m for pain and suffering as a result of assault; $4.2m in punitive damages; and $15m for present value of life.
It is not clear what the fate of Nick Gordon, whom Whitney Houston raised as her own son, will be in the likely event that he is unable to raise the funds required for settling the case.
