Just one match away and AFCON 2019 will finally come to an end. Although the Super Eagles of Nigeria will not feature in that game, but their journey in the tournament was not futile as the team wrapped things up by clinching the bronze medal.
In a somewhat successful outing in Egypt, the team was able to stabilize their standing in the tournament after their misstep in the group stage match with Madagascar. They almost ruined their chances when they lost 2-0 to the debutants, but they were able to turn things around by winning Cameroun in the round of 16 game.
After defeating South Africa in the quarter finals, the Super Eagles progressed to the semi-finals where they bowed out in defeat to the Desert Foxes of Algeria.
To consolidate their efforts, they took the game to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the third place match on Wednesday night at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.
The match ended with a lone goal that was scored early into the game by Odion Ighalo, and the north African team could not make a comeback by the time the encounter was over.
And so it came to pass for the Super Eagles in the 2019 edition of the African Cup of Nations in Egypt. They added another bronze trophy to their gallery and that makes it eight.
