The Island Block Party hosted by MTV Base at the Lekki Special Events Center on February 29, 2020, was filled with music, awesome performances and the most energetic crowd. It rounded up a week’s long celebration of 15 years of music video excellence at MTV Base Africa.
Top artistes like Niniola, Peruzzi, Mayorkun, Teni, CDQ and more were joined by a few upcoming acts to deliver performances, all of which were fun and dance-inducing. The fans loved every moment of the performances and the performers gave their best. Here are some of the most memorable performances from the night:
Niniola: I don’t think this could be overemphasised, Niniola is a bad-ass performer! She is arguably the best female performer in Nigeria right now. The instant connection she made with her fans at the Block Party is all the proof we need. Nini’s performance was energetic, exciting and spontaneous, we loved every moment!
Peruzzi: We could never get tired of Peruzzi and his special voice. He got the fans dancing and every second he was on that stage was electric.
Mayorkun: The Mayor of Lagos showed up for the ‘geng’ with his energetic performance. He rounded up the show with just the perfect dose of energy. Every song was a hit and every dance move added some flavour to the show.
Teni: Can a Lagos party be complete without the Sugar Mummy of Lagos turning things up? We doubt it! Teni’s performance of her hit songs, “Billionaire”, “Power Rangers”, and the others was brilliant.
Blaqbonez: The self-acclaimed ‘Best rapper in Nigeria’ did not come to play at all. As always, Blaqbonez came to remind the fans that he is not playing around with his music and we felt it.
CDQ: Whenever CDQ takes the stage, you know that people are bound to ‘gbe body’ and his performance at the Block Party was no different. It was complete madness!
Slim Case: Slim Case is one artiste that knows how to make everyone lose their home training when he starts performing. At the Island Block Party with MTV Base, he got the fans dancing so hard, some people actually forgot they had received any form of home training.
Buju: Buju was the perfect crowd controller at the party. He had the whole crowd singing along with him and girls moving their waist.
Ladipoe: Ladipoe took a moment of silence to celebrate the life of the late American rapper, Pop Smoke because he loves his songs. Then he proceeded to give a lit performance of some of his biggest tracks like “Jaiye” and “Revival”.
Oxlade: Oxlade brought some sweetness to MTV Base’s Island Block Party with his song, “Sugar” and the girls couldn’t get enough of him.
A few up and coming artistes also got to perform their songs, the DJ was on fire, and the vibe was all we needed to recover from the past week. The Island Block Party with MTV Base was without a doubt a great break from all the Lagos drama, we loved it!
