Many Nigerian movie lovers thought Odunlade Adekola would win his first ever AMVCA in 2017.
Hence, it’s a shock that his ONLY nomination for the fifth edition of the award ceremony is for Tobajewo, written and produced Omirefa Titus.
The film, nominated for Best Indigenous Language Movie (Yoruba), also stars Sola Kosoko, Segun Ogungbe, and Wunmi Ajiboye.
Tunde Kelani won the award for Maami in 2013, followed by Mercy Aigbe for Komfor in 2014, Fathia Balogun for Iya Alalake in 2015, and Abiodun Jimoh with Jumoke Odetola who took credit for the prize in 2016 for Binta Ofege.
Odunlade, who’s the biggest Nigerian actor at the moment, missed out on major nominations despite featuring in about 30 films this year.
The actor also made an appearance in his first English Movie, The Grudge, alongside Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ireti Doyle, and Jaiye Kuti.
‘Odunlade has featured in many Nigerian films but they’re not upmarket, that is why he didn’t get the main AMVCA nominations,’ a Nollywood insider told Thenetng.
It’s unacceptable for an actor, who African Magic viewers can’t do without on their screens every day.
Africa Magic Yoruba or Africa Magic Odunlade Adekola?? Like every time I tune to the channel, he’s always in whatever movie they’re showing

His fans would tell you he deserves an Oscar award, but he’s yet to be recognised by some of the biggest African movie awards.
