Filmmaker Spike Lee may have made some of the most successful movies in Hollywood history- Jungle Fever, She’s Gotta Have It, Inside Man among many others- but the industry’s highest honour has eluded S him for four decades, so his reaction at last night’s Academy Awards was understandable.
When his 2018 film BlacKkklansman was announced as the winner of the Best Adapted Screenplay, he lept into the arms of his friend and longtime collaborator Samuel L. Jackson who presented the Oscar to him.
It was a beautiful moment that reflected his joy and had the entire hall stand up in ovation. The emotion wasn’t lost on millions of viewers, some of whom applauded the purity of the moment via Twitter.
If I live my whole life and get a friend who loves me as much as Samuel L. Jackson loves Spike Lee I will have lived a damn good life my goodness #Oscars

I’m so glad it was Sam Jackson who gave Spike his first Oscar. For years I would’ve never guessed that would be possible. A dope moment!
