If there’s anybody who can’t catch a break, it’s definitely R Kelly. The 52-year-old singer must wish 2019 could start all over for him. Less than 24 hours after his explosive interview with CBS’ Gayle King aired, he’s back in prison custody after failing to provide his ex-wife with child support for their three children.
R Kelly is being held for owing $161,000 of child support, a situation his lawyers say has arisen from his financial difficulties in recent times. Although he offered to pay $60,000, the judge handling the case ruled that he be held in custody until he comes up with the full payment.
His ex-wife Andrea had been part of the revealing Surviving R Kelly series that aired in January which featured nearly fifty women who detailed alleged sexual, physical and emotional abuse by the singer. The movement #MuteRKelly also seeks to prevent him from profiting from his music in a bid to force him to face legal consequence for his alleged actions.
The two were married from 1999 to 2006 and have three children: Joann, Jay and Robert Jr. The eldest child Joann was on television last month with her mother, following the fresh set of sexual abuse allegations he now faces.
