The year 2019 is looking like a good year for Nigerian hip-hop from the get-go. We have seen the revered label, Chocolate City disrupt the soundscape with an impressive cypher that features M.I Abaga, Loose Kaynon, AQ and Blaqbonez. 2019 has also seen Mavin Records signee, Ladi Poe kick off the Triple Homicide challenge that is slowly gathering steam.
Joining the league of rappers that are holding no barrels is emerging emcee, Djaji Prime. The new kid on the block has just dropped his debut album and it is absolutely a laudable first impression.
The 12 track project which houses the contributions of PayBac, Boogey, Ria Sean, ODC and Mon Lee does a decent job at making a sonic offering that stands apart. On content, the album highlights his mental and inner struggles and his resolve to overcome.
“ExPRESSION tells the story of a young man’s battle with his demons and attempts to fully clear the weighing thoughts that revolve in his mind.”, Djaji told NET via email.
Much of the album was produced by CHx.
