A 4th-minute goal by Cristiano Ronaldo was enough to secure a narrow win by Portugal as they triumphed over Morocco is the second round of matches in Group B.
The North African country now becomes the first to leave the competition after failing to score any goal throughout their campaign.
Ronaldo put the Portuguese side in front from a corner after getting away from Moroccan defender Manuel Da Costa to create a chance for a free header. Ronaldo now leads the tournament’s goals chart with 4 goals in 3 matches, after his hattrick against fellow group members Spain.
Morocco on the other had dominated most part of the second half and came close to scoring in several occasion. Medhi Benatia came close to scoring in the 56th minute but his header off a freekick was superbly saved by the Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio in what is arguably the best save of the tournament so far.
Morocco and particularly Benatia continued to press for the equalizer and again it almost came in the second minute of stoppage time but the Moroccan fired his shot slightly wide over the post.
The other game in group B between Spain and Iran is set to hold in a few hours.
