American singer, Solange Knowles, has deleted her Twitter account for personal reasons, though, she used her last tweet to solicit support for Takiyah Thompson.
22-year-old Thompson is an activist who was arrested in connection with toppling of the Confederate Statue in North Carolina on Tuesday.
‘Deleting my Twitter soon, but before I dip, when we gonna pull up? And what we got to do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free?’
Thompson was charged with felony counts, ranging from participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500 and for inciting others to join in the protest.
Before her arrest, Thompson said, ‘I’m tired of white supremacy keeping its foot on my neck and the necks of people who look like me.
‘That statue glorifies the conditions that oppressed people live in, and it had to go.’
After deleting her Twitter account, Solange took to her Instagram page to rant about White supremacists and Nazi oppression in the country.
‘My son’s first day of school has been in the midst of seeing these bullshit images that still tell him this system was built to be against him,’ she shared.
‘Thinking about demanding he not be required to take American History because its deep dark rooted ugliness continues to live right now, right before our eyes.’
