African Action Congress (AAC) earlier today suspended its 2019 Presidential candidate and National Chairman – Omoyele Sowore, his deputy National Chairman and eight others. The party proceeded to make its Former National Secretary, Dr Leonard Ezenwa its acting National Chairman.
The party claims that Sowore and the other members were suspended for inability to hold or convene National Executive Committee quarterly meeting, anti-party activities and financial misappropriation. In the official statement released by the party, they revealed that the decision had been made at the National Executive Committee of the AAC, at its second NEC meeting held on the 27th of March, 2019 in Abuja.
However, Sowore has come out to say that all of those allegations against him are lies. In a statement, he said that Ezenwa who led the meeting that brought about his suspension was already on suspension himself. According to Sowore, Ezenwa had been suspended earlier for financial impropriety and anti-party activities and had no basis to suspend him.
With regards to this, Sowore in his authority as “National Chairman” expelled Dr Leonard Ezenwa and suspended all other members of the party who had conveyed at the meeting they decided to suspend him in. He claims that their decisions show that they have never shared the core beliefs of the party.
All updates on the matter will be shared here as the issue continues to unfold.
