Nigeria’s national football team is now one win from sealing a place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup following a 1-1 draw with Cameroon in Yaounde on Monday evening.
The reigning African champions needed a win against the in-form Super Eagles to keep alive their hope of reaching the mundial holding in Russia.
But that hope dimmed further in the 30th minute when the Cameroon defence failed to clear their lines with the loose ball eventually finding Moses Simon who volleyed the ball in for the opener.
Odion Ighalo came close to making it 2-0 just two minutes later, latching on to a Victor Moses and losing his marker only to fire his shot just over.
Victor Moses would come even closer to extending Nigeria’s lead in the second half but saw his effort graze the Cameroon crossbar in the 66th minute.
Those missed chances came back to haunt Nigeria as the Indomitable Lions pulled a goal back through Vincent Aboubakar‘s 75th minute penalty
But the Super Eagles held on to claim a share of the spoils and end Cameroon’s chance of taking part in the 2018 World Cup.
Recall that Nigeria thrashed Cameroon 4-0 last Friday and now need only to beat Zambia in their next match on October 7 to qualify for the World Cup.
