Despite losing to Nigeria professional football league side Kano Pillars 2 – 0 in the round of 32 of the Aiteo Cup, Super Eagles right back Abdullahi Shehu has promised to give his boyhood club Sokoto United a sum of 200, 000 naira for their effort.

Prior to the match, Shehu had promised to gift the team the sum of 100, 000 per goal scored against his former club Pillars, but the team from Sokoto failed to hit the net against the former NPFL champions.
Kano Pillars veteran, Rabiu Ali, scored a brace to put his team through to the round of 16.
The round of 16 fixtures will be held in a group-stage format with all 16 teams paired into four groups.
