The 7th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards will be held on March 14, 2020, and some talented actors are nominated twice in a single category. We take a quick look at all the actors whose talent has got them competing against themselves in different categories.
Toyin Abraham
Toyin Abraham is nominated twice in the category for Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series) for her roles in “Bling Lagosians” and “Kassanova”. She is also nominated for her role as the pregnant ‘Abigail Kuforiji’ in “Elevator Baby” in the Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series) category. In “Bling Lagosians”, she plays the rich uneducated Iya Oloja whose pronunciation of the names of all the luxuries she enjoys will give you a headache and make you laugh.
She began acting in 2003 after she was scouted by veteran actress, Bukky Wright on a set and has continued to deliver brilliant performances for many years. Throughout her career, she has featured in both Yoruba and English movies. Some of her most popular appearances include “Tatu”, “Wives On Strike: The Revolution”, “Hakkunde”, “Ebi Mi Ni”, and many more. She has also produced movies like “Alakada”, “The Ghost and the Tout”, and “Seven and a Half Dates”. She is currently working on her new movie, “Fate of Alakada: The Party Planner”.
Uzor Arukwe
Uzor Arukwe bagged two nominations at this year’s AMVCA for ‘Best Actor in Comedy or Movie’ for his portrayal of ‘Somachi’ in “Smash” and that of ‘Jide’ in “Size 12”. The versatile actor has worked on so many productions since his breakout movie, “Unspoken Truth” in 2014. He cannot be put in a box as he has tried out different roles across the various projects he has worked on.
Uzor started to feature in more Nollywood box office productions in 2018 and caught the attention of the industry. Aside from his brilliant performances on “Smash” and “Size 12” in 2019, he also featured as ‘Knight’ on the critically acclaimed “Sugar Rush”. He was the main character (the pastor) on Ndani’s recalled series, “Oga Pastor”. He has also featured in other blockbusters like “Dear Affy”, “Sergeant Tutu”, “(K)Pali” and “The Set-Up”.
Zainab Balogun
Zainab Balogun is no doubt an extraordinary actor with the ability to take on any roles. In 2019, she showed just how versatile she could be with her role in “God Calling” as a depressed addict who lost her daughter in a gas explosion and is now getting a call from God. She also gave a phenomenal performance in the supernatural thriller, “Sylvia” as ‘Sylvia’. She is nominated for an AMVCA in both films in the ‘Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series) category’.
Zainab is an actress, model and TV presenter with about eight years in the industry. She always brings her best foot forward to any project she is called to work on. She has appeared in multiple blockbusters like “Royal Hibiscus Hotel”, “Chief Daddy”, “The Wedding Party” and Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight Rises” (a Batman movie).
