Vanessa Trump, the wife of Donald Trump’s son, filed for divorce from her husband less than a week ago. Reports of what happened inside the troubled marriage have begun to surface following the news of the divorce. According to Page Six, a source revealed that Trump Jr. treated his wife like ‘like a second-class citizen’.

Here’s what the source said:
‘He gives her very little help and has been keeping her on a tight budget. She doesn’t live a lavish life and can very rarely pick up a check at dinner.’
While Vanessa’s family is not as wealthy as the Trumps, she did grow up in an affluent household. This would explain why the financial restrictions her husband placed on her would not sit well with her. Additionally, Trump’s election only compounded on the marital problems of the couple.

This is what the source had to say about the impact of the election on the marriage:
‘She was interviewing divorce lawyers before [Trump’s presidency]. No one thought he’d win. He won and she decided to stay until his term is over. But she just couldn’t stand it anymore.’

Vanessa’s representative has, however, refuted all the claims made by Page Six’s source. Here’s the spokesperson’s statement:
‘These claims are simply not true. Don and Vanessa have tremendous respect for each other and always have. The notion that she has had to rely on her family for assistance is absolutely false and utterly ridiculous. Vanessa is very protective of her five children, as anyone would be, especially those in the public eye. That said, any claims that she is unhappy with Don posting photos of their children on social is not true. In fact, Vanessa is usually the first to ‘like’ the posts that he shares. Don is a wonderful and very involved father.’
