It may be early days but Disney- Marvel Comics’ latest instalment Black Panther, could be on course to be one of the highest grossing movies ever: it has made $387 million.
It also is the top-grossing film in history by a black director (Ryan Coogler) and featuring a mostly black cast, beating Straight Outta Compton which made$214 million worldwide in 2015.
Featuring a stellar cast that includes Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Forest Whittaker, Angela Basset and so many others, Black Panther has been sold out worldwide and fans have given positive reviews.
This is how Nigerians reacted after seeing the movie.
I love the fact that the white characters in The Black Panther only exist as plot devices to further the stories of more compelling and nuanced black characters.
I hope white audiences watch it and realize that’s how it’s been for us in just about every movie since forever.

In 2018 the five foolish virgins left the cinema at the end of Black Panther. The five wise ones stayed back. Those who know know. Good morning.
