Rihanna’s last album, Anti, was released in 2016, and since then, it’s been four years of Bad Gal Riri neither denying nor confirming when the new album would be dropped.
We still don’t know when Rihanna’s ninth studio album will be released, but there’s hope on the horizon. In a very recent interview with Vogue UK, she said she was aggressively working on new music.
“I can’t say when I’m going to drop. But I am very aggressively working on music.”
With the recent trend of American music artistes collaborating with their Nigerian counterparts on music projects, we started wondering. What if Rihanna’s new album is being delayed because she’s searching for the right Nigerian artiste to collaborate with?
Yes, this is wishful thinking, but our Instagram followers answered anyway.
27% of the 365 comments received were looking forward to a Wizkid and Rihanna collaboration.
Another 17% were looking forward to a song with Burna Boy and Riri.
Don Jazzy actually got six percent of the nominations for a hilarious reason – a number of people remembered his longtime crush on Rihanna and thought a music collaboration might give him the chance he had been waiting for.
Tiwa Savage got just over five percent of the nominations, while the other nominations were divided amongst Nigerian artistes like Wurld, Patoranking, Kizz Daniels, Rema, Fireboy DML, and others.
Wizkid is definitely one of Africa’s biggest music exports. Being featured on Beyonce’s Lion King-inspired album, The Gift has possibly given him an even stronger appeal to fans across the world.
A collaboration with Burna Boy isn’t even far fetched. The African Giant was also featured on Beyonce’s 2019 album, and all of the internet knows Rihanna loves his music.
What do you think? Which Nigerian artiste should be featured on Rihanna’s new album?
