In what appeared to be shocking news for music fans, foremost singer and vocalist Waje has announced her decision to quit music.
The 38-year-old musician reached limelight after providing vocals for the Psquare track, Do Me. She would go on to launch her own career and has been celebrated widely as one of the finest voices to come out of these parts.
However, her decision to quit music, she says, is a result of the frustration she has faced from her last album, Red Velvet being largely ignored by the audience.
“I’m frustrated, I am really tired. I no longer believe that this thing is working. I am respecting in this thing that we do but there is also bowing out when the applause is loudest”, she’s seen saying in the video. “I do not have faith in it anymore. Nobody will say that I have failed or anything. The point is that I am not willing to do this thing anymore. Do you know how much I have invested in this career thing?”
She also refers to the lack of funds to continue putting out music. “I don’t have the money for publicity. My music has been taking the bulk of the money and I am not willing to put money there anymore. I don’t want to be in the class of artistes that have failed. I just think that I have gotten to the point where I don’t think it is working for me anymore.”
Waje has two studio albums to her credit, along with dozens of singles. She was also a judge on the 2016 season of The Voice Nigeria.
