Artistes have been dropping names for ages. But when Faze dropped his single ‘originality’, we all praised him for tying an inspirational concept to an otherwise vain, patronising practice.
Now, the song’s newly-released video gives a much-needed life to the song; narrating a young man’s dream: to achieve greatness like his heroes before him.
At a time when many of his contemporaries are glorifying scam, casual sex, and substance abuse, Faze and his team are treading the narrow path: throwing up easily forgotten achievers and heroes and making it appear fashionable to aspire to be like them.
The director puts the National theatre to good use, just as he uses brilliant portraiture to depict the characters.
That’s why it’s easy to forgive the video’s shortcomings (in terms of make up, out-of-context scenes etc).
But wait, what was that ex-President doing in the mix?
